Thoughts on technique, experiments with new ways of working, works in progress, or general ramblings. Much of the material posted here relates to SketchUp, to painting in various media, and to drawing. Your mileage may vary. Enjoy!
Been drawing when time allows over the past several days. Struggles with composition leading me back to my favorite guilty pleasure, SketchUp. Shown here is the evolution of a SketchUp composition, possibly for eventual painting….
I’ve been thinking about paintings which would work well quite large, and space — not necessarily outer space, but space between things, the long view, with small figures or groups providing scale and a human presence.
Another small experimental piece, using SketchUp and the tiling Ruby plugin I described previously. In this case I’m using gouache rather than acrylic for ease of blending, isolating thin layers of paint between layers of acrylic medium to stabilize and provide isolation for subsequent layers. A fun way to work – it has something of the best of both oil and acrylic worlds (ability to use gels, to draw w/ graphite, and to blend), though of course you don’t get the saturated richness of colors this way that you get with oil.
The next painting?
