War Permutations is a set of hand-printed relief (rubber stamp) impressions, 7.5 x 9.5 inches (20x24 cm). Each print is a unique permutation of images based on medieval helmets, with each helmet hand-carved and printed by the artist.
The stamps were created over roughly one week in May, 2022 and are loosely based on photos I took in the Art Institute of Chicago that month.
The series is "lazily-editioned" (printed on demand). To ensure no duplicate permutations occur, a program was written and is used to generate and record each arrangement. When all permutations have been exhausted, the edition will be "closed" and the stamps destroyed.
